My Rusi MP100 modifications

Sprocket changed from 14x34 to 14x36, purchased one set (chains and sprocket Php750) so I got my old chains replaced too. Had the rear shocks lowered for better balance. Now it's running more efficiently.

i almost forgot about this blog

i was busy in the last few months because i moved to a different company. the training was difficult so i didn't have time to update my blog. well anyway, training is over and i am taking calls again. everything i back to  normal and i will have time to update this blog.

my rusi mp100 is now 8 months old. so far it's still good however, the head light fairings got broken because of a recent accident.  i'm hoping to find a replacement of the broken part by the end of the year. the shocks  now are lowered so i can comfortably balance the motorcycle with my foot.  i am also planning to replace the carburetor to improve performance.

the letter "s" on my keyboard is not working, you have to press it hard enough for it to work. i needed to read this article twice to make sure that the spelling is correct.

Motorcycle newbie (RUSI MP100)

i'm having a hard time passing through a rough, blind curve, dark road. i wonder when they're gonna fix it. it's also raining and it's slippery. i was holding on to the front break, i didn't realize that i'm also turning the accelerator, big mistake. i panicked but i managed control it.

here is a photo of my rusi mp100 underbone bike. i changed the seat cover, cropped part of it to make it lower.

Rusi MP100

i got my new rusi mp100 on saturday morning. unlike other dealers they require background check before you get the motorcycle. in my case since my wife and i are employed, we went there and talked to the guy at the local rusi dealer. we gave a copy of my pay-slip and chose the 1 year payment term with zero interest.  the guy at the local dealer was funny, they have pictures of customers who had debts and posted their pictures on the wall. the guy said you could be one of those guys on the wall so keep your payments up to date.

i've been riding my new rusi mp100 for 3days, so far i didn't had issues however, the gas consumption was higher compared to my racal 110cc. anyway, it's still under observation. if there are some more issues i will take it back to the local dealer for checkup.

Riding my first motorcycle

i'm not sure if it is a motorcycle or a scooter. i can't tell the difference because i'm new to this. however i found out that it's a honda wave-dash clone made in china. i got the it from a relative's friend who can't pay the monthly dues because he lost his job. for a person who is new to motorcycles, riding it was fine except that it's so difficult to shift gears.

i'm using it in the community. i don't have a drivers license yet so i can't take it out to the main roads. i will be getting a license as soon.

i will use it for a couple of weeks then send it back to the owner due to payment issues, i don't want to get my self in trouble. i'm getting a new one from a local Rusi dealer by the end of the week.

Facebook is now Pixelbook

It seems that everywhere I turn I see Facebook users are complaining about the quality of their images when posted.  No matter how you tweak the photos they look grainy when uploaded.

Spicebird

I was looking for a good alternative to Evolution mail, I found Spicebird from Sourceforge and installed it.   Spicebird has crisp icons and uses a tabbed interface for different utilities such as mail, calendar, contacts, etc., and setting up your existing Gmail address is quick and easy.  The home tab is very useful, it has RSS Feeds, mail folder view, calendar, upcoming events, and date & time.  Date & time is very helpful when you need to view different timezones.

MadBox Linux

I installed MadBox today, MadBox Linux is a lightweight, Ubuntu-based Linux distribution featuring the Openbox window manager and a simplified desktop configuration system.  It tries to cater to CrunchBang (“#!”) Linux users who want an Ubuntu-based Openbox distribution (as #! switched to a Debian base almost a year ago), as well as to users who want a fast and lightweight OS or one that will work on a slower computers.

Here's a video by sneekylinux.

2. Suitable for low-end hardware
3. It uses lightweight Openbox or Xfce window manager
4. Based on Debian 6
5. Not bloated like Ubuntu

KahelOS 111111 Review

This is the newest version of this rolling-release based on Arch Linux. It has a live CD and a GUI installer and claims to "simplify the typical Arch Linux install".

Live CD looks good but when you proceed and install it, you are greeted by File Management window signaling you to backup your files. If you don't read this carefully, you may come to think of it as an option to pick a partition to install it.
Moving on to the next window, again it reminds you to back-up your files or partitions. If you hit Install, say goodbye to all your partitions.
Don't install it unless you have a spare hard drive.

Sabayon 7 with Gnome 3.2

I was one of the few who hated gnome 3.0 on it's initial release. I loved gnome 2 and I got used to the UI since I begun using Linux. I switched to CranchBang since then and I can say that it's one of the best and most stable Linux Distro I have ever tried. GNOME is now at version 3.2 and the recent release of Sabayon 7 is getting good reviews so I decided to give it another try.

Downloading Sabayon 7 Gnome 3.2
I ran Sabayon 7 using live USB and it was great but when I tried installing it on my hard drive, I was getting a bug report so I thought there could be something wrong with the ISO. I decided to download it again on my Window$ box using a download accelerator.

How to install Firefox 8.0 in CranchBang Linux

It’s a surprise how easy it is to install Firefox 8.0 on CrunchBang Linux. I downloaded the installation file provided by Mozilla in .tar.bz2 format. Extracted it and moved it to my /opt directory and set it as my default browser. There is no need to compile the program, the archive already contain pre-compiled binary files. Installing it from Synaptic Package Manager will install the previous version.

While some people are concerned about Firefox’s rapid release cycle, I don’t care! this is good free stuff you don’t want to miss.

Discovering CrunchBang Linux

For several months, I’ve been  testing every Linux distro I can dig up for my old PC. I’ve been running Ubuntu on my desktop and got disappointed to learn that it was too bloated. I also used Sabayon 6, one of the best distro I’ve ever tried. I liked it but updating it and downloading software packages is a pain in the butt for somebody who uses pre-paid USB Plug-it to get to the Internet.

None of the other distros quite cut it, until I came across CrunchBang. I can say that I’m completely satisfied. It’s is based on Debian, it uses Openbox window manager and Xfce desktop environment. CrunchBang Linux is designed to be light and quick and has the best choice of default apps you could ask for.  I’ve been using it for 3 months, never had any problems with it, I never looked back on my Ubuntu days.

What is your favorite Linux distro?

Setting up a Startup iCafe business

I'm still in the planning stages, learning how to get started with a small residential iCafe. I don't have enough to begin with. I plan to start with four refurbished PCs for surfing the net, email and chat, just the basic stuff. I don't intend on investing on games because first off the old PCs can't run modern games and second, it doesn't help the community. I know it's big business for most iCafe operators but I just don't like PC games. I prefer it to be a quiet environment for students who are working on their school projects and people who like use Facebook and watch videos on Youtube.

Here are the PC Specs:

Intel Pentium 4 1.8Ghz
512MB DDR
60GB HDD
On Board Video with AGP Slot
Includes free new Keyboard and Mouse
15-inch LCD TFT Panel
Radius AVR with 4 outlets

Cost per PC is PhP4,470 based on OpenPinoy online calculator. I'm sure that there are better offers somewhere but I will need to check first.

There is also a company that offer brand new computers on installment basis. For an AMD-based PC, the lowest installment plan is at PhP16,999. Initial down payment is PhP4,250 and payable in 12 months at PhP1,767. This is one option but I don't want to be indebted for the rest of the year.

Business permit is another issue, it's a home business so I'm not sure if I needed to register it or get a permit to operate.
